Construction at Kresge College will be done in two phases, beginning in summer 2019 and concluding in summer 2023. In keeping with Kresge College's legacy of participative democracy, the campus has hosted regular town halls to gather feedback and input as planning progressed. 

The campus released a draft environmental impact report in November 2018, which provides the campus community and broader community an opportunity to provide additional input. 

The document is online, and two public hearings are scheduled. They are: 

  • Tuesday, November 27, 2018, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
    Louden Nelson Community Center, 301 Center St. Santa Cruz, CA
  • Wednesday, November 28, 2018, 5:30-7:30 p.m.

    Kresge Town Hall, Porter-Kresge Road, UC Santa Cruz main campus

Written comments on the draft EIR may be submitted to: Director of Campus Planning, UC Santa Cruz, Physical Planning & Construction, 1156 High St, Mailstop: PPDO, Santa Cruz, CA 95064, or via email to The public review period closes on Monday, January 7, 2019, at 5 p.m.


  • May–October 2016: Planning phase
  • June 2017–October 2017: Programming phase
  • March 2018: Design phase begins
  • Fall 2018: Draft EIR released
  • June 2019: Phase I construction begins
  • August 2021: Phase I ends. Phase II construction begins. 
  • August 2023: Project completed
